Over the past two years as the holiday season ramps up, I've been thrilled to join in the #GivingTuesday movement. Launched in 2012 as a national day of giving back, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has become a tidal wave of donations, volunteer hours, "unselfies" and all-around good karma. And this year is no different, as there are literally tens of thousands of nonprofit organizations and social enterprise companies who are on board to make 2014 the biggest #GivingTuesday yet.
This year, my contribution is something very valuable: Time. Starting today I'm kicking off a brand new service called Open Office Hours, a completely FREE one-on-one 45 min brainstorming session to offer insights and ideas to give your organization, foundation, social enterprise brand or idea some positive momentum.
Over the past 5 years, I've met and spoken with hundreds of nonprofit leaders in the sports community, and I know there are a myriad of daily challenges your organizations face. So bring me your toughest questions about marketing, public relations, social media, finding corporate partners, engaging with professional athletes & teams, or we can simply brainstorm on a new idea. And just like everything else on this site, this service is free. No catch, no hidden agenda. As I've said from day one, my goal is to strengthen and support the nonprofit organizations in the sports community through whatever means possible. And I want to see every organization better equipped when it comes to marketing.
All you have to do is visit my calendar HERE to review the available days/times and then select whatever is most convenient for you. Each week will be different, so make sure you bookmark this calendar page and check back often to find a day & time that works for you.
Once you click on the time you want, submit your name and email address and you'll get a confirmation message with the details. We'll hop on Skype or Google Hangout (or via phone if you're too camera shy ;-) for our conversation. And if you're a bit too overloaded during December, fear not - Open Office Hours will be an ongoing initiative in 2015. Just check the calendar each week to see the open days/times.
Happy #GivingTuesday everyone!
John Stockton gave 15,806 assists. Wayne Gretzky gave 1,963 assists. Can you #GiveAnAssist on #GivingTuesday?
The World Cup starts on 6/12 when hosts Brazil take on Croatia (12:30pm PST on ESPN). So to kick things off right here in Southern California, we're celebrating "World Cup Eve" on Wednesday June 11th with our World Cup Kickoff LAparty! We've teamed up with our good friends at Sports Studio for a fun and social event to network with sports business and entertainment industry professionals who share in the passion and excitement for the World Cup.
Several nonprofit and social enterprise soccer orgs will be on-hand to share how they use soccer as a tool for social change, including:
Also joining us will be the LACMA exhibition "Futbol: The Beautiful Game." The exhibit examines soccer and its significance in societies around the world, and includes approximately 30 artists who work in video, photography, painting and sculpture, providing "a sense of the miraculous possibilities of the sport as a universal conversation piece." This is a must-see for soccer fans in SoCal; visit LACMA before it wraps up in late July.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase and we'll have plenty of raffle prizes and give-aways throughout the night. There's a full video game arcade on-site as well as an "air soccer" table so you can show off your skills.
I wanted to give a quick shout out to Coaches Across Continentswho were recently selected to receive a 6 month pro-bono consulting package to help with their Google Ad Grants program. This was a promotion we ran earlier this year with our friends at Elite SEM who offered to provide their expertise and training to a sports nonprofit program who is actively using Google Ad Grants.
To give you a little background, Coaches Across Continents is an international nonprofit org running sports programs that address key social issues through sport including health and wellness, life skills, HIV behavior change, drug abuse, female empowerment, gender equity and conflict resolution. In 2013, they were operating in 20 countries with 51 implementing community partner programs, educating over 2,100 community coaches who impacted more than 170,000 young people.
Take a quick look....
Things are just getting underway with Elite SEM's consulting and we'll be reporting throughout the year on the progress of Coaches Across Continents and their Google Ads. We hope to share some best practices and valuable lessons learned along the way that can be beneficial for any organization who participates in the Google Ad Grants program.
For many nonprofit orgs, the Google Ad Grants program is a great way to get seen across the web. But without proper management, their generous $10,000 worth of Ad Words credit can disappear without doing much good. Understanding keyword selection and proper bidding are the domain of the top Search Engine Marketing (SEM) firms. And luckily, we've found one that wants to help YOU do more with your Google Ad Grant...

I have installed the HP Vista driver and the Synaptic driver trying to get the touchpad to work, as well as scoured this and other sites for advice.
